About the island
Trademark law in Aruba
In 1986, Aruba left the Netherlands Antilles and gained its separate status (Status Aparte) within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and in 2010 the Netherlands Antilles were dissolved. Aruba, along with Curaçao and St. Maarten, became a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Intellectual property matters in Aruba are overseen by the Bureau of Intellectual Property in Oranjestad. Under the Aruba Trademark Act, trademarks can be registered for goods and services in all international classes of the Nice Classification. Prior use does not need to be proven and international priority can be claimed. Registrations are valid for ten years from the date of application and can be renewed for successive ten-year periods.
